London Vegan Bird takes New York: Part 1

Ah New York New York. You have my heart and now also my stomach which has grown exponentially in the 5 days of our wonderful trip. Here is part one of some of my favourite restaurants in NY!

Pumpkin and Protein Muffin

This incredible Juice bar in Williamsburg is super cool. Filled with fresh fruit and veg in very cute surroundings. I had the Aloha Acai Bowl and my boyfriend had the Cashew Baby Smoothie. Both excellent choices! We may have finished with a nibble of the Vegan Pumpkin muffin which was also rather yummy.

Peacefood Cafe

Peacefood Cafe is a vegan kitchen and bakery offering soups, salads and sandwiches to name a few and then incredible sweet treats.  I wish I could have tried them all. I went for the Asian Greens Salad and my bf had the Tempeh and Avocado Sandwich. Seriously good. We couldn’t resist picking up dessert for later;  a Raspberry Jam Spelt Crumb Bar and and Apple Slice. Both were absolutely incredible. Highly recommended.

Candle 79

A special treat for our Anniversary as this restaurant is more of a gourmet experience. The food is beautifully presented and delicious.  We started with some wonderful onion rings with a very special chipotle aioli.  For Mains, I had what apparently is Alicia Silverstone’s favourite dish; Seitan Piccata and the bloke had the daily special of pecan crusted Seitan. This place is definitely rather pricey but had a great atmosphere for a special night out.

Lula’s Sweet Apothecary

Now on to my favourite vegan ice-cream place in NY.  It was a little difficult to find as the store is on a quiet street but very worth it.  I had the Cookies and Cream ice-cream and it was as lovely as you would expect. Lulu’s offers frozen vegan treats & toppings served in an old-school ice cream parlor setting.
