Bird’s Eye Review: The Vegan Kind December box

IMG_1140

The December box of The Vegan Kind had a distinctly Christmas theme which I really enjoyed (oh what a distant memory now).  Here’s my review of the month’s products:

Teatonics Mind Awakening Yerba & Laid Back Botanical Tea (RRP £1)

IMG_1147

I’m a big tea drinker and am always up for trying new flavours but I have to admit that these two samples from Teatonics really had me underwhelmed.  However, I do appreciate the fact that these teas include ‘super-herbs’ and all sorts of good ingredients. My preferred of the two was the Green rooibos with chamomile but I can’t say the flavours had me jumping for joy.  http://www.teatonics.co.uk  | @teatonics

Wholeplus Gingerbread Toppers 100g (RRP £2.20)

IMG_1148

Not my first time trying the wonderful Wholeplus products (please see here for a previous review of the brand (https://londonveganbird.com/2014/08/05/birds-eye-review-whole-plus/), these limited edition Gingerbread flavour Toppers are perfect to add to porridge, breakfasts or even to sprinkle over your favourite vegan ice-cream.  Check out the Wholeplus website for the other flavours and be sure to order some of their yummy breakfast Hot-Pots. http://www.wholeplus.com  | @includingcake

Olive Branch Gluten Free Sweet Biscuits 130g (RRP £2.79)

IMG_1151

I absolutely loved these gluten free biscuits from Olive Branch.  I tried the orange flavour and they were deliciously light and morish.  I was sad to finish the packet.  I will definitely be looking to try the 2 further flavours –  Cinnamon and Almond & Clove.  Let me know if you received these in your box and what you thought of them. Their website is also full of what appears to be some delicious greek finds so take a look here.  .http://www.myolivebranch.co.uk | @OliveBranchFood

IMG_1145We are a huge fan of candles in our household so I was excited to see this festive scented number in the December box just in time for Christmas.  Harper’s Candles are an independent, handmade soy wax candle business from East Yorkshire. I love the fact that the company offers charity candles which support the Jerry Green Dog Rescue and are also Vegan Society registered.  This candle smelt wonderful and I promptly ordered 3 more for a friend’s birthday present.

London Vegan Bird Food : Pumpkin Overnight Oats

IMG_8873

It’s been a while since I’ve done a recipe on my blog so I thought it was about time.  This is the breakfast I have had during the week for pretty much the last few months and I’m still not bored of it.  I always make this the night before work, that way I can just grab it in the morning and go.

Ingredients

1/2 cup Oats (I used Gluten Free but you can use any you like)

1/2 Banana (not shown below – whoops)

1/2 cup Almond Milk or Dairy free milk of your choice

 1 Tbs Flaxseed

1-2 Tbs Chia Seeds

1 Tbs Almond Butter  (Peanut Butter or other Nut butters are just as great)

1-2 Tsp Pumpkin Spice (i sometimes substitute for Cinnamon)

1 Tsp Vanilla Extract

Jar or container

IMG_8628

 Method

Mash banana in bowl and then add other ingredients in whatever order you like.

Stir together throughly

Add berries, extra banana or fruit of your choice just before eating.

This recipe has endless options and varieties too, for example you can add in the berries with the other ingredients to make a compote, adding jam or even using chocolate (non Dairy) milk for a more indulgent breakfast.

Have you tried overnight oats?  I would love to know your favourite recipes.

Thanks for reading.
